I currently manage the digital and social accounts for North Carolina Public Radio – WUNC.

Editing

I edit daily and enterprise stories for the website, respond quickly when there is breaking news in North Carolina, and keep the website and social feeds up to date with the most significant breaking national and international stories. I’ve also improved the station’s use of AP images, started a monthly photographer profile, built a network of freelance photographers, and worked with college journalism students to collect images — all in an effort to improve the visual aspects of the site.

Social Media

The primary social media platforms include FacebookTwitter and Instagram.

I’ve increased the number of local, national and international posts shared on the station’s Facebook and Twitter pages; done numerous FacebookLive sessions with reporters and live show guests; and engaged with audiences directly on both platforms. That sustained pace of social sharing helped grow both accounts from 2016 to 2017: WUNC’s Facebook account grew more than 15 percent and its Twitter account grew 25 percent.

I’ve also built the station’s Instagram account from the ground up, offering photojournalistic content to nearly 1,700 followers.

Staff Training

In both formal and informal ways, I train reporters and editors to think about various aspects of digital and social media content. This includes brownbag sessions on everything iPhone photography and Instagram stories, to building quote tiles and creating .gifs and writing conversational headlines for the web.
